Question about 'deathmatch' cvar

First of all,I don't know if this is the right category for such question,I hope it is...been looking the whole forum and thought this is the most appropiate one.
So the question is,what's the deal with the cvar 'deathmatch 1/0' that some servers show in hlsw and monitorings? I tried myself to use amx_cvar deathmatch in the server console & server.cfg and it retrieves unknown command...

Kobra, in cs 1.6 gamedll or even in client dll a lot of cvars for HL, unused in cs

Kobra, cvar description:
It defines if the server is multi player (1) or single player (0). When you launch a listen or dedicated server, this is auto set to 1. This only stay on 0 if you launch a map by map "mapname" or you play HL single player.
